Steve, this was a beautiful column. We so much need to improve our education rather than go backwards the way Florida is going. Teaching kindness, creating programs that help people meet people who are different from them, reading about different people and their lives that both reflect their difficulties and suffering as well as their contributions to our world, are very necessary. It happened a lot in the late 50s and in the 60s but I don’t know if we do that anymore. We need to do so again.

However, I believe “Why” is the wrong question, in my view the more acute question is “When”…When shall the will be summoned to remove these traitors from their places and crush this repugnant movement of hate, lies and gaslighting..War was waged against America on January 6th 2021..And what have we done? Waiting through two years of this insanity, risking more damage to our Republic for a withering ballot voice seems a waste of precious time..these are desperate times that require desperate measures..Why no one seems to see this is beyond me..
It was a beautiful speech. The elephant in the room is the Open Borders immigration policy of the present administration. It’s bad for immigrants, dangerous and all about division. If Open Borders is path to diversity for diversity sake we are in trouble. Immigration is not a right. It’s an aspiration legally extended. I believe we need a much better legal immigration policy. Otherwise our Minority Leaders talk of “ our” diversity will end up only dividing us. And the immigrants encouraged to come illegally will end up in limbo and demonized.
