A failed insurrection, where no one responsible is held accountable, is nothing more than a training exercise. These generals, who knew, for years, what a danger the inciter in chief was and still is, are cowards. John Bolton, was a coward and a profiteer. This is all so disgusting, shameful, and deadly, in regards to his supporters still not believing COVID is a thing and that vaccines are some sort of trick, even though they want him given credit for them. My mind has lost the ability to wrap itself around anything, anymore. I find myself not feeling sorry for the willfully unvaccinated getting seriously ill and dying. The media puts them on display every night. I just can't. The last 5 years in this country has changed me, and not necessarily for the better, but, at least for the wiser. I am more cynical, untrusting and judgmental, with good reason, but, not good qualities to have, I'm afraid. I am heartbroken terrified for my country. If these people, all the way up to the top, are not held accountable, we are doomed, and this great experiment in democracy will have failed, in spectacular fashion.
The followers here aren't just hillbillies and the uneducated. It's your plumber, real estate agent, tile distributor or contractor, your neighbor, the guy sitting next to you at the VFW and Legion Hall. It's the lady that cuts your hair, teaches your kids or is a nurse at your local hospital.
I see and hear these people every day in business and social settings.
Make no mistake though, they are funded by the white conservative wealthy class.
It's not really power that tRump wants, he just thinks it will keep him out of the court system or prison. The raw power comes from his enablers in Congress.
It’s too late to keep wishing the Cult members will change the channel from FOX, or watch the NYT Insurrection video on YouTube, or require higher standards of their GOP legislators. I'm just exhausted by all this division: political, medical, education, history, climate. Part of me just wants the red states to secede and get it over with. They're killing their own followers with Covid lies even though they've already been vaccinated. How despicable! I'm 76 years old and was NEVER raised like this! I'd recede into my small bubble of friends and family, but I'm so afraid for my six grandchildren. I need to do something but I don't know what.

As far as I’m concerned all but about 3 republicans in Congress should have been arrested and indicted for conspiracy to commit sedition, sedition, attempted overthrow of our government, obstruction of justice & probably multiple counts of tax fraud. All of them have violated their oath of office multiple times as well.
What a lot of people, including quite a few people in Congress, don’t seem to realize is that what we are experiencing now is the result of a meticulously planned govt. takeover financed by a few very wealthy republican/ libertarians. Everyone both in & out of government should know this by now. The people who don’t know it can’t possibly be paying attention.
We all know this 40 year, slow-moving coup isn’t going to go away on its own. At this point continuing to ignore it puts all Americans in jeopardy. Actually, the entirety of the current world order is at stake. In my previous essay I wrote that options for dealing with it are few, but that’s true only if Dems intend to deal with it by staying within the context of normal govt. operations.
Unfortunately, that’s like bringing a knife to a gunfight. If you have two opposing teams and team A operates within the bounds of the laws, rules, norms & precedents, but team B operates with no regard whatsoever for any of those constraints, team A will lose.
Team B is getting bolder by the day because there’s very little push-back from dems in Congress-at least as far as I can tell. For example, I don’t understand why Matt Gaetz hasn’t been arrested and indicted, much less Donald Trump. I worry that democrats don’t have a strategy hammered out. Maybe they do, but it increasingly appears they don’t. Dems should have worked out some line-in-the-sand strategies by now.
Americans are being threatened for simply not agreeing with republican BS. That’s outrageous! Even more astonishing is the fact that there are large groups of people now who apparently think some kind of GOP dictator/autocracy is a good idea. They really don’t seem to understand that we will all be much, much worse off than we are now if that happens.
Plus, I can’t begin to fathom what goes on in the minds of republicans in Congress. Do they seriously think they can control the outcome of violence perpetrated by lawless mobs? If they do they’re either delusional or mind-blowingly stupid.
As I write this, the local newscast is reporting on a 1/6 insurrectionist from Phoenix, a grown-ass man dressed in his idea of gladiator garb, & taking selfie’s while texting his mom that he “made it to the top.”
