Turn about is fair play! Not my usual style, but.....

I once asked my 7th graders to look up the original/literal meanings of their names. It was fun and successful, until one very chubby young fellow learned that his last name meant 'fat stomach.' I dropped that assignment real quick! and got interested in Italian-origin last names. I learned that names like Della Chiesa and DeSantis were given to babies left at the church door by unwed mothers. Hah!

This is all true - but more fundamental is what type of government we would like - a democratic republic or a fascist autocracy. It matters because with the cruelty package, we lose the ability to control our destiny throwing away everything past Americans have worked for and extinguishing hope for the future. Once we make that choice, it will be hard to change course in the future even if minds are enlightened and changed. Which is a feature of said cruelty.

There has been cruelty from the beginning of time with Cain murdering his brother Abel. There have been wars throughout history, usually started by ambition. Not only was there cruelty, devistation by colonists against Indians, tribes fought each other before one white man stepped on the land. Our own founding fathers, Adams & Jefferson developed a deep hatred of each other, calling each other names, traitors. Modern history is full of cruel acts, mean spirited people. What concerns me is the number of people who encourage, support this behavior. What has happened in America that so many are willing to follow those who would take away the freedoms we value and resort to childish, mean name calling causing chaos & mayhem? And those who are kind & have the best interests of society are mocked & go unelected to office, replaced with the Lakes, DeSantises, trump's.

What have we as a loving, helping nation become?
