Sadly, the one and only conclusion I can draw from the Republican reaction is 1) They know the charges are true 2) They intend to counter them by any means in order to 3) Replace our democracy with autocratic/fascist rule. It’s up to us to make sure that this doesn’t happen.

The fact that some media continue to report the GOP drivel in a “fair and balanced” way, gives it more legitimacy than it deserves. Which is none at all. So much destructive nonsense was allowed to pass on the Sunday shows yesterday that it was maddening. The MSM is complicit in their failure to show truth to the liars.

Newsmax & OAN are just smaller, more extreme versions of Faux News.

Who has been teaching Americans to hate America since 1996.

Owned by an Aussie that the UK won't allow in their country, has tried to do the same in Australia as he did here.

On the board of Faux, is Paul Ryan who famously gave out copies of Ayn Rand books to arriving new congressmen when he was Speaker of the House.

Until the firehose of falsehoods is stemmed, Americans will tear at each other.

The other owner is Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, a nephew of the Saudi king. (Investigation of legislation urged by Faux favorable to the Saudis may be a real can of worms)

The Prince is in partnership with Russia.

The majority of our efforts on the “path to repair “ must include eye opening visuals of what freedoms will be sacrificed if we elect an authoritarian bound leader with a cult like following.

It is amazing that MAGA mania has such a strong hold on Republicans and Trump's base. I would like to see the Media rework how they cover news events. Like eagles stalking their prey, newscasters rush to the scene of an accident or disaster, talons out, ready to pounce. There seems to be an almost macabre attraction to outrageous and dangerous events, like police chases, horrific shootings and the never-ending 'Trump show'. Wouldn't it be better if Media chose to tamp down the shock and awe effect, and highlight more positive life events? I don't mean deny the existence of problems, or rewrite reality; just ease up on the peddle of intensity. Round table discussions about a demagogue who has no one's best interests at heart, but his own, triggers more anxiety. The GOP blithely acts as if the disarray within their Party doesn't exist. Know that the indictments will land where they will. I am choosing to work on assignments tomorrow, Tuesday April 4 . Watching TV is not my priority. The world will keep turning; I don't think Trump has found a way to mess that up yet.

Again, well said. Of course you know that you are preaching to the choir, but you are right on, although I am not enamored by the polls because they are often wrong, especially about something so subjective. How do you ask a clearly understandable objective question about what is happening in our country today? Tough, but, as an optimist, generally want to believe that at least 60% of the country is ready to boot the SOB out of our lives, and not just politically.

I was reminded this morning on NPR that trump is not the first president to be arrested. Grant was. For racing his horse pulled carriage down a Washington street after being warned the day before. Others with whom he was arrested showed up in court, were fined large amounts. Grant who paid $20 bond, did not show, so lost his $. The arrest was made by a black policeman who had served in the all black Civil War unit.

The others carried on about his actions, but Grant commended him for doing his duty.

This hardly compares with the present situation, but it is interesting.

I read this balanced opinion piece, and first commented prior to the unsealing of the indictments against Trump. True to my word, I did NOT watch the event unfold on TV. Returning home in the evening, it seemed that most TV platforms, including here in Canada, covered the event. In the pictures of Donald Trump, sitting with his bevy of lawyers, appeared deflated and unhappy. He had no opportunity to speak, other than to plead not guilty. He apparently picked up on his usual vociferous script of grievances, rife with critiques and name-calling, at Mar-A-Lago that evening. GOP allies who are in denial about his criminality, must be weak characters with a deficit of integrity. They can't claim to believe in M-A-G-A, and yet allow Trump to evade the rule of Law, which, by definition, means the SAME laws apply to everyone. Therein lies the deficit in their flawed thinking. The GOP do not appear to believe that all people should be treated equally and by the same standards. As more charges come at TFG, his loyalists have a choice: continue to support the criminality of a former President, making then his virtual accomplices to wrong-doing, or stand up for their county.

I don't do twitter any longer; but twitter still send me emails of people I used to follow. I was particularly taken by your post @StevenBeschloss. April 4, 2023. Indictment. Surrender. Arraignment. The beginning of accountability. Finally. This is a special day for America. Our justice system is working. Our Democracy is working. We are beginning to rebuild our country to the high stature it once held and will hold gain. Amen.
