To me, Lake, with her over confident stage walkon, pointing to people she might know, seems like an actor playing a part in a movie, a stage hand holding a board that says Take Six.

I see no reason for so called debates. Nothing accomplished, judged on appearance. People who listened to the Kennedy/Nixon debate on the radio thought Nixon won. We know what they will say if we have tuned in to TV hosts who pick up on the juiciest comments & run with them. Watchers then think that's the whole story , minds made up.All headlines, no depth. No wonder trump has fans. Government has become show business in America.

“And it sure wouldn’t hurt if more journalists grasped what’s really at stake.” That’s an understatement. Once upon a time newspapers and the 3 network prime time news anchors played an important part in framing political issues truthfully.

But that’s gone now--replaced with tabloid fodder, shallow gossip and faux controversy, and has resulted in large numbers of Americans who are shallow and devoid of critical thinking skills. It’s disheartening, but it’s partly our own fault, because we let it happen. Standing up for important principles has been replaced with standing up for greed and pretending to have principles.

The Democratic candidates who are taking their GOP opponents’ lying head on are competitive even if the electoral advantage is with their a opponents. You’d think the Dem establishment would have more strongly supported efforts like that.

Debates are a 19th century anachronism and serve no purpose and in fact are detrimental in the internet age.
