Thank you for illustrating that only constructive builders will stand up and act

to save our democracy and our world.

Cynics and pessimists do nothing

but hamper and destroy our morale.

Steven, despite a tumultuous environment, domestically and internationally, you also offer us an optimistic viewpoint here. Thank you so much for your excellent writing, coverage, and care!

And here is the center of our struggle to save our Democracy. How can you change another person's mind? It's surely not by talking louder and repeating what we think is the right way forward. People tend to stop listening when being repeatedly yelled at, which usually ends any chance of having a meaningful discussion.

I've found that meaningful conversations usually begin with a kind word and an honest effort to listen. This usually increases the chance that another person will care about what you think. It doesn't always work, but it's a good place to start. Try it with a young person like your grandchild, you might be surprised what they think about their future.

Kindness and listening. Valuable tools.

If we duck and cover, if we keen and wail, if we rend and lament, we will seal our fate. We must stand and act with persistence and vigor.

This brightens my day. TY for a bit of 'sunshine' in the otherwise horrific plight of Gazan/Palestinian people (not hamas) and brave Ukrainians against Putrid.

"Turkey’s president Tayyip Erdogan expressed his support for Hamas as a 'liberation group' not 'a terrorist organization'." SO wrong, and will mislead tens of millions of people.

What those people did about present and coming climate problems sounds great. On the other hand, MAGA Mike thinks climate change is a hoax. Vote!

The world is on fire. Masses around the world raising the Palestinian flag shouting support for Hamas and , as usual, against Israel and Jews. Greene, Gaetz and company turned against helping Ukraine while European support waning. Mr. Johnson waxing, proselytizing , a little, suspiciously too much for me, while his backers are all smiles and smug. trump sparking, ready to turn into a blazing forest fire when the kiddos testify. Giuliani crying the blues while Lindell saying his workers are suffering but not his fault. An unknown who will take away votes that are necessary for a Democrat win. A little sprinkle here and there falling through a split between the clouds. But, oh my! Double, double toil and trouble. fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Young people rock! If we manage to hang on to our democracy, the younger people will eventually replace the older. Changes are sorely needed in our government.

Thank you for some perspective. It seems we as a society have lost all perspective of what is happening around us, especially regarding weather and climate, and the resources we use for things we take for granted. It is heartening to read we have people who retain concern and are sounding the alarm through their shared experience. Now if we can only get those in decision making circles to facilitate needed change...

It is so heartening to read that the younger generation has such good innovative ideas. They bring their optimism and energy with a can-do attitude. As a oldster, I feel less optimistic even though I try to stay focused that things can get better. In the area where I live, development is/has decimated the environment in addition to climate change. So, good words from you are encouraging.

For this encouragement I thank you. I do have hope in the younger generation. I see my children teaching their own children decency, tolerance and concern for their society and the planet.

It's hard not to feel glum about the state of the world, but these snippets of good news help. It seems the only uplifting stories are about young people trying to make a difference. I read one this morning about a 14 year-old who developed a formula for soap designed to treat melanoma. After he gets FDA approval, he plans to establish a non-profit to make the product available to anyone, especially workers in his native Ethiopia, who toil all day in the hot sun.

Thank you for discussing that fantastic summit you attended on Friday, because before that I was drowning in fear and depression because of the other news you related.Yes, there is a lot of bad news out there; and we cannot ignore it. We must address it in whatever way we can, though I don't think any of us has the ability to control 45's childish outbursts for getting punished for what he is doing wrong; and we certainly don't have the ability to teach him correct moral and ethical behavior. He is approaching 80 and we must realize that we can't tech old dogs new tricks. The world situation is dire. Israel was assaulted on October 7 and the days that followed in a way not seen since the Nazi assault of WW II. The new Speaker, a mouthpiece of 45, claiming to be ordained by God threatens to continue to destroy our country in the way 45 tried but had to stop when he lost the 2020 election. Yes, he really lost. The Civil Trial in NYC shows that his presidency wasn't his first foray into immoral behavior and in cheating all of those around him in his attempt to aggrandize himself, his only real goal in this world. Even his lawyers who are "flipping' in the GA case are probably not going to say very much to hurt him, as I am sure they are still afraid of his wrath. I have no pity on American's former mayor, now a disgraced felon, ok, innocent until proven guilty. So he has to sell his mansions and live in housing like the rest of us. Of course, that should look good to him as it is probably better than living in a jail cell where he belongs and where he will go if he doesn't strike a plea deal, which he is probably too arrogant to do. This children of 45 have to testify in 45's Civil Case, which is only fair because they were officers inn the company that cheated. I hangout your discussion of last Friday's climate summit because it gives e hope that there are people and visions in this country that truly want to make it na better place. Let's all hope that we get there soon.
