Razor sharp analysis.

We need this read on every TV news platform, printed online in every newspaper and editorial column, and sent out to the masses on paper flyers dropped from the sky around the country. It’s the Federalist Society, in part, and power hungry bad actors who seem to have broken us.

Thank you Steven!

When listed, the actions are breathtaking in their ability to destroy our long-held societal norms. But the list also allows us to be clear-eyed about the necessity of voting in November and, where necessary: ‘vote blue no matter who!’ The voting norm really counts and WE are the change we’re looking for and need.

To me, it is a scary world right now. I do not see the good ship “America” righting itself sufficiently enough to remain afloat. Nor, as you say, will it do so in a timely enough manner to avoid lasting damage to its “seaworthiness”.

I see an America populated with individuals whose freedom we have fought for - working only to selfishly benefit themselves with closed minds ..”to hell with the rest of us”. And to hell with our allies and the rest of the planet. Their selfish goal: get power - remain in power - no matter the cost. I am tired of the daily “circus” of narrow minded “third grade level” intellects and their “torpedo” tactics.

In a sane world, this would never have happened either. My heart is very sad today.

14. Putin would not have felt safe murdering Aleksei Navalny.

We can turn this great list into aspirations for 2024, then add 15. Reelect Joe Biden president.

These “In A Sane World” letters are the most persuading, potent and most needed thoughts I’ve ever seen in print as it relates to our present situation. These pieces put things back where they belong.

The question I have about MAGA (Make America Great Again) is with the word “AGAIN”. Our country has enjoyed some fine moments, but underlying racism, graft, crime, and greed have never been absent. Can’t we embrace Make America Great, or even just Make America Better. Maybe we might even work together to achieve that, understanding that greater good is never unanimous. MAGA is a fundamentally false premise.

It is intentional to divide “us from them”. IOW, a revived slogan not so subtlety aimed at those who do not accept that the US is/was exceptional due to its divinely inspired conception until those/them/they ruined it. (Revived from Reagan, 1980.)

Considering it roots, MAGA is also a fundamentally an intentionally divisive & anti-American creation.

I say Maga is a terrorist organization.

Absolutely beautifully written Steven.

I am fully optimistic that we will get to this sane world and that so many of us are working at this right now, as you are indeed. We are getting there, despite the chaos we see.

RIP Alexei Navalny.

He didn't pass away in vain

Thank you for articulating the many things that are bothering me about the US right now. Sometimes I am so overwhelmed I just say it’s awful in the US but you explain why I feel this way.

Change MUST be possible. If it doesn't occur, then all U.S. citizens will sink the same way that clock is sinking.

I do listen to propaganda from trump and his followers to keep informed; I agree with you that it is maddening, it aggravates me to the point of feeling a sick turmoil inside from my stomach to my throat. Entries on Twitter are exasperating, ignorant, each day, some new thought up crazy comment. Especially annoying are comments by women trumpers about Fani Willis relationships when trump proven and admonished to pay millions for rape. I can't help but add my 2 cents to some of the remarks which , would you believe, has led Elon Musk to notify me that he is following me !! What trump spouts has become normalized to the point that people just think, to borrow Ronald Reagan's phrase, "There you go again." And of course, Little Marco Rubio who implied trump's small hands had other meanings, came out immediately defending trump's frightful remarks about NATO and Putin's right to invade. Putin told traitor Carlson that Poland started WW II (i.e. mimicking Hitler's lie that Germany was invaded by Poland) which tells me that this little KGB rat has Poland in his sights after Ukraine. Should that happen, the US is bound to join allies in its defense meaning American mothers better, with tears in their eyes, either kiss their sons goodbye or send them off to Canada. Not everyone can get a bone spurs note.

A few good things: Judge Cannon has decided not to postpone a Feb.22 trial date deadline, and

DeSantis is back tracking on his book bans. Tom Suozzi won in NY wisely saying he concentrated on what people are thinking about, a lesson to be learned by Biden's publicity team. The President should confront openly, loudly the immigrant problem-nobody it seems, wants them, and climate change. God help us here in Florida when July comes ! He should give examples, what cities look like now with South Americans,( I read Chinese coming across, too) sleeping on all the streets, what devastation has taken place from fires, tornadoes, torrents of rain, heat, melting icebergs. Have you seen the picture of the lone polar bear sleeping on a small floating piece of ice?

Anyway, a children's rhyme comes to mind when thinking of trump and his bootlickers, keeping in mind this bird is know to be a bully: Sing a song of sixpence, a pocket full of rye, four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie. When the pie was opened the birds began to sing, wasn't that a "flunky" dish to set before their king?

Like you, I have followed the news very closely since 2016. Like you, I need to know what the orange sadist is up to so that I can respond and act (to the extent I am able).

Thanks very much, Steven, for this really powerful article. It is still amazing to me to see what has unfolded before our very eyes since Trump began this in 2016. I pray that he does not return to the White House, and I also pray that the metastasis of Trumpism from the original cancer does not destroy our country. Thanks again, Steven, for all that you do.

Thanks, Steven! We need all the positive, uplifting words about our democracy that we can get. The more of us that focus on the world we want, rather than on how bad things are, the more likely that collectively we’ll create that outcome.

We can get back on track, especially if democrats

are the majority in both the senate and the house

after November. Once we get back on track there

are a lot of things we must do to make sure it

doesn’t happen again.

In the meantime we need to understand who’s doing what. We are where we are today because of the GOP, their greed, their callous foolishness and their reckless disregard for the rights of all Americans. Republicans have sold us out to the corporations & Trump sold us out to Putin.

Republicans stopped cooperating and stopped

negotiating in good faith many years ago, before

Trump ran for president. Their non-cooperation

is in fact part of a planned government takeover

that has more or less finally been exposed for what

it is. But until most of us who oppose Trump are

on the same page, we’re not going to make a lot of headway.
