Steven - Your last paragraph says it all. Mike Pence apparently lacks the character & decency to do the right thing. We can only hope the Courts will not allow him to use the Speech & Debate Clause to keep him from doing his duty to the country he once served.

Where does anyone get the idea Trump is the slightest bit masculine or attractive to women?

Problem is, he (and many others) don’t know how to do the right thing. They are so busy telling lies they couldn’t find the truth if it hit them in the face. Your words certainly voiced my frustration with this all. 🙏🏼

Easy question today. Mike Pence has no honor. For weeks he has been taking both sides of the issue, trying to claim he did what is correct (have you noticed that I can't use the word "right"), proclaiming how he did the correct thing on January 6 and certifying the electoral votes, and also that person #1 did things wrong. Not wanting to alienate the base of person #1, leader of the insurrectionists. So now, while obviously wanting to seek the highest office in the land, he refuses a subpoena by the justice department. Does he understand why it is everyone's obligation to honor a subpoena issued by the DOJ, regardless of the party in power who may have nominated the AG, leader of the DOJ. Claiming this is a political thing, while the DOJ is trying to solve a crime; and no one was a more central victim of the crime than VP Pence. You can't have it both ways, Mr Former VP (difficult to use his name also). Didn't he learn from the former administration and the election of President Biden and VP Harris, and the 2022 midterms which showed that the country clearly is rejecting election denialism and dishonoring the country? That's a rhetorical question. Clearly he didn't learn . We don't want, we don't need another dishonorable person in the WH, leading the free world. No one is above the law Mr Former VP. Anyone who is issues a subpoena by the DOJ has an obligation to show up and do her/his civic duty. My Former VP, you have no honor. Thank you to our amazing leader of America America for all of these thoughtful discussions over the past year. Thanks for giving us this easy issue on Friday. And when do I sign up for the next year's subscription. Have a great weekend everyone in this great group.

He started out with his family business, tobacco stores. Then he said "Tobacco doesn't kill".

Truth was never a part of his DNA.

As usual, Professor, you have, with your usual clarity and insight, put your finger on it. We have gov't / leadership of the selfish, by the selfish, for the selfish. If someone like Pence did this in Russia or China, people would note how contemptible those people are. When it happens here, we call it Tuesday. or Wed. There should be a museum of ironic / hollow phrases, like equal justice under the law, or equal opportunity.

Mike Pence is applauded for "doing the right thing" by proclaiming Biden president. Why? He was not being honorable. It took Dan Quayle to tell him he had to follow the Constitution when he was trying to find a way to obey trump. Pence, more or less, followed the vice presidential tradition - show up at funerals, make an appearance when the president is not interested, make speeches to raise money -that sort of thing. Mike's great accomplishment was simply lasting. After all, at that cabinet meeting, he praised trump something like 14 times in just a few minutes. He always looked like he wanted to give trump a hug.

I find him wishy washy. Raised Catholic, he became evangelical Catholic ? ; a Democrat, he switched to Republican, influenced by jolly old Ronny Reagan; true or not, he is reputedly gay but does not recognize gay , trans, rights; he and wife publicly got covid shots while praising trump's stand on the virus; he continues to defend trump but has intentions of running against him in 2024; he approves of the ultra right Christians laying hands on trump, knowing full well trump wouldn't recognize the 23rd Psalm unless his name was in it; he defends aid to Ukraine while being in cahoots with Gaetz, Greene, Junior who side with Putin; he defends trump patriots but is not going gentle into that good political night.

And so, we have a man who, when he comes to a fork in the road, takes both. What an indecisive president he would make. He should disappear into Republican oblivion, but then, even weak men can have big dreams.

You are so right!!!! Mike Pence is deeply conflicted. If he follows his religious beliefs, he has no other options but to testify, it's the right thing to do. Imagine making the choice between ego and faith when you've lived a lie for so long. He's between a rock and a hard place of his own making.

When I watch the behavior of some of these politicians, I honestly wonder, “Do they really believe the BS that they are spouting?”

If yes, how can they be that deluded? If no, how do they sleep at night?

A man who professes to be a Christian, a man who professes to be honest and nothing to hide doesn’t hide from a subpoena. He will never be president mostly because he is not mean enough - he is the type to be used by the mean sorts - Trump, DeSantis etc. he is fluff - he was used to bring the Evangelicals along to Trump. Trump is no Christian nor evangelical. I find it laughable that Pence says the subpoena is unconstitutional…

I refer to your third last paragraph, Steven, wherein you use the phrase 'God '. The driving, and albeit misguided force in Pence's life is his faith. He is a former Roman Catholic who became an Evangelical Christian. In his autobiography, titled 'So Help Me God,' Pence claims his faith is what guides his life decisions. The Church has always been concentric to his life. He believes that the Lord calls him to action. I can only ask if he has a direct line to a higher power deity? Pence's undying support and adulation of Donald Trump was, in essence, subservient worship of a false God. He comes across as such a white-washed individual. Can you imagine a debate with #45, Nikki Haley and Mike Pence, as well any other Republican contenders who may declare as candidates? It could be quite a spectacle, as the forces from above and below clash.
