Thank you, Mr. Beschloss, for always seeing the horror but transforming into words of gratitude, humanity, and humility. You are a balm in a sea of trash these days, and I hope you have a gratitude filled day with loved ones. We are thankful for you, en masse, and very much look forward to your words in the coming year. As the Irish say, Sláinte!

We are a big family, warts and all, and I agree with your sentiment. I am an optimist and I believe our better natures will defeat the defeatism of the MAGAs and the oligarchs that are trying to take it all for themselves. Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks Steve for acquainting us with this important history. As a realist, I have little hope that Gaza will emerge as part of a two state solution because Hamas will not let that happen! Even when Hamas appears to be defeated militarily, it will continue to exist underground as a terrorist force. So random acts of violence will persist and it will control political leadership in Gaza with the support of Iran and others. How Israel and the rest of us emerge from this dilemma is not predictable but let’s give Joe credit for what he has done behind the scenes so persistently and will do publicly as well as privately in the difficult future!

Steven, on the 29th of November, which always falls a few days after Thanksgiving, my beautiful daughter Stephanie, who died of cancer in May 2014 has her birthday. This year she would have turned 40. In the months after she died I almost gave up on life, and my calling as a minister, for how could the loving God I sought to follow, allow her to die in the horrible way that the cancer invaded her body. But God was gracious, and after some months of destructive grief where I made myself ill, that October at a men's prayer breakfast I heard the guest speaker say, God WILL allow you more than you you can manage in your humanity, for HE is a God who is ALL powerful, and He has the power to overcome ALL trials IF you invite Him in and let Him be your strength. I was using Romans 8:28, God will use all things for the good ... as my justification to curse God, for how could her death be good? I misunderstood, her death was tragic and Jesus weeps with me. God has used my suffering for His good in mankind, and that is how Stephanie Smiles was born. Each Thanksgiving there will be more suicides by people who have come to the end of their ability to overcome their struggles, their grief, their addictions to mask, than on any other day of the year. My prayer for you, for all you reach, and encourage with your reminders of the greatness of America, is that we will all pause, and say a prayer for those who look at an empty chair at their table. Pray that they can find their way to trusting God, and that He will give them the strength to know His love, by Grace, and that He has a plan for them also. A plan that is good, and beyond their imagination!

Alexander,

your words are so beautiful.

They are a Thanksgiving gift to us

from you and Stephanie.

Thank you for all the love

you poured into writing them.

I bet Stephanie loved you with all her heart.

And I bet she would love your words here.

They speak to how precious she is to you

and how you are reaching out to us today

to ask us to pray for the families with an empty chair at the table.

Yes I pray for every grieving family.

I pray for you and your family.

I am so sorry your daughter suffered

and died.

By God's grace you found your way

to honor her.

She lives on in all your tender work.

And in all your tender words.

My condolences on your profound loss, and my appreciation for the story you tell here. Hope and fulfillment can be born out of disaster and devastation. I, as a believer whose faith has wavered in the face of the insanity we’re living with, needed to hear your words. Thanks, and may your words reach thirsty ears today.
