This is all feeling like same old, same old. Powerful, rich white guys getting away with everything, while regular people get screwed. Nothing changes if nothing changes. Looks like nothing has changed. It's not just Garland that's pissing me off. We, the people, came out in record numbers, during a pandemic, to put Democrats in power, and what have we gotten? Same old, same old. When Republicans are in the majority, the use their power, when they're in the minority, they use power they shouldn't have, and Democrats just seem to shrug their shoulders, and say, oh well. This is bullshit. They could investigate 1/6 without the Republicans. They had their chance and voted no. It feels like Democrats have to get permission from Republicans no matter what and I'm sick of it. This is a recipe for Democrats losing both chambers. Piss off the people who worked like hell to get you there, expected them to fight like hell, and see a bunch of political cowards. Enough, already. Either our democracy matters to out elected officials, or it doesn't.

I am disappointed as well. I believe in and support Merrick Garland. But don't we need to see some indication that justice will be done? I see the rioters being charged and I am glad the Oath Keepers (what oath - and to whom - are they keeping, anyway?) are being held to account. But I sure don't want members of Congress ..ALL of those representatives who voted against a peaceful transition of power....the Representatives AND the Senators - I want them all held to account. They should all lose their seats. And that vile, sneering, calculating narcissist needs to be jailed.

Yes, it seems slow, but I believe (hope) that Garland will do the right thing and apply the law equitably. What concerns me, this is what I believe, is that there are numerous politically-staid people in all agencies of the DOJ who remain loyal to the former guy and can (and will, if allowed) throw a monkey wrench into the whole damn proceedings. It simply is not possible to adequately monitor and correct all subversive moves (coverups, intentional negligence, evidence destruction, etc) which may be made by people of ill intent. That our country has devolved to this gutter, NO INTEGRITY state is just disgusting to me!

As the Republicans in some states curtail voting rights drastically and some senators refuse to see that democracy is in peril, I'm very worried that our country will not be a democracy for long. I'm old enough not to worry about my future - it's the future of my six grandchildren that I worry about. More transparency would put my fears, and that of many others, at rest.

Excellent article. The dems need to be bolder and acting more swiftly. Garland needs to say SOMETHING, ANYTHING to assuage those of us that are paying attention and are in fear of losing our country. Trying to be patient but need something from Garland.

I am trying to be patient. He is obviously like the president and vp, 180 degrees different in how he works. He was a judge so used to methodical work, he was a prosecutor and used to methodical work. I am still giving him time since there’s a lot to unwind and probably goes back to 2016 or earlier. I would love to see the Mueller Report released with redactions that protect people but everything else would be public. It’s time….

I too question whether instigators and funders will be brought to justice. The fearless Sheldon Whitehouse was dogged on this point during Garland's confirmation hearing. Whitehouse would have been a great AG for these times.

It’s months since you wrote this post and still crickets from Merrick Garland and the DOJ.

Worse still, the insurrectionists are being treated with kid gloves by federal judges, letting them take vacations, giving out light sentences, letting one man travel from NY to Pittsburgh for a football game.

We needed a strong, aggressive AG to prosecute trump and his minions.

Instead we have Garland. The milquetoast whom Obama thought would be an easy SCOTUS appointment because he’s inoffensive.

Seems like an inoffensive AG is a pretty terrible AG.

IT SEEMS THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE WAITING TO SEE AND HEAR THE RESULTS OF ALL OF THE E TRUMP INNSPIRED ELECTION AUDITS, IF THE AUDITS PROVE THAT THERE WAS CHEATING AND FRAUDULENCE IN THE 2020 ELECTION AND DONALD TRUMP REALLY WON PEOPLE WILL BELIEVE WHAT TRUMP SAID. IF THERE WAS NO FRAUDULENCE, CHEATING AND THE ELECTION WAS HONEST WITH NO PROOF OF VOTER FRAUD. THEN PEOPLE CAN DECIDE ON WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE JAN. 6TH INCIDENT.

"existential danger"

Can danger be existential? Perhaps the danger is clear and present. Currently, decisions coming out of Justice seem bizarre. And, no apparent clearance of the iDJT appointees certainly gives one pause.

Blessings upon your work!
