And to think that he had no need for speech writers & wrote those precious words himself.

And we have become so divided that @ 40% of Americans follow a man who cannot properly utter an intelligent sentence.

It is not the 4th that concerns me, a day more devoted to having a BarBQ than a rememberence of its true meaning, but the 5th when reality resumes.

I think these words, slightly modified by me in the brackets, give us the direction and the motivation that we need now: " that this nation, under God [with freedom of religion to each have our faith values recognized and respected], shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." No one of us, nor any group of us, is expected to complete the task of repairing our broken nation. However, we are obligated to begin the work. And the time is now. 🇺🇸

Thank you for this. As much as we were taught about Lincoln and as much as we have admired him, imperfect as he was, there is more greatness that most of us probably didn't know about. Thanks for quoting his 1861 speech.
