I long for the days of Jimmy Cater putting solar's panels on the White House only to be removed by Reagan who also upped the anti on subsidies. The saddest thing for me is that we have known about climate change and many have tried to do something meaningful and lasting about it, only to be thwarted at every chance by those who were given those same subsidies gambling our future away. As of recent the former president's actions of removing us from Paris climate, touting the return of coal, trying to sell off our lands/natural resources, allowing more fracking and pipelines. Even the seemingly benign obnoxious toilet flush he loves water comments as Flints privatizations proved exactly how hazardous these for profit privatizations can be. As one that has traveled this country I was amazed to witness the absence of even the mere basics of recycling measurements taken in some states and towns. The priors administration and appointees were filled with those trying to turn/stop every action taken and progress made of this most important life issue around and by those that profit and benefit off not doing so. This decades long push and pull should not have happened and had it not have been for the greedy self interested unable to grasp the larger more livable future for all we would not be here now. There are no excuses or feigned ignorance anymore. It was known then as it is today only now much worse and irreversible only still sustainable and manageable if we take it seriously and really do what needs to be done finally. I also have had it with those asserting their pro life stance while doing absolutely nothing about the very environment and lives of which these new lives will inhabit. I believe we need to shorten the gap between those of the haves and the have nots or the wealth gap contributing to another form of pollution of which also threatens climate change and sustainability. The old adage ""When you know better you do better" is long past overdue and without any excuses left for any more feigned ignorance. I am encouraged though, as you are Michael that all of this will finally lead to a more just, sustainable, equitable, socially conscious and really living livable environment for us all. #thanks again #MDDOS

Ps Michael and all- we also did not even touch on the subject of all the unnecessary wars or so called proxy wars that have desimated/devastated countries and resources or all the Authoritarian leaders pillaging natural and or other resources which contributes substantially to the climate issue also.

I am a Realtor, and last month I send my e-news about conserving at home. Based on my research, my sprinkler times were immediately adjusted, thankfully everything else I wrote about was based on how I live daily and seasonally. I never dreamed that climate change would accelerate so rapidly in my lifetime. Marilyn's comment below is spot on.

My membership in the Appalachian Mountain Club (not just a hiking club) has given me the opportunity to grow as an environmentalist and conservation advocate. We've been seeing extreme weather in my area (CT) for at least 10 years. The UN report is one of many wake up calls. We have to take this seriously. A lot of bad things are already baked in. We have to take action now to stave off the worst that is to come.
