Steven, do you remember when everyone in this country would watch that movie? Would Republicans even bother anymore as it probably screams liberalism to them now? The cycles of history are creating a country and a world not recognizable but understandable if you know your history. You do. I thought I would be able to contribute and live my life as an honest citizen before I died. I always knew the Republicans had a plan that started decades ago, but I thought truth would win out. It is getting harder each day. Perhaps, there is someone out there like George Bailey we could all believe in. I always believed in General Jimmy Stewart; therefore, I believe in George Bailey.
I watched a show about the people who “built” the US post Civil War: Vanderbilt, Carnegie, Rockefeller, Morgan and the people who died building the US and they didn’t care. They threw their money behind Republican candidates who let them do whatever they wanted. Sound familiar? The richest of the rich have been working behind the scenes for years to get back to the time when they answered to NO ONE.
My only comment is, what is it exactly the republicans are trying to do. We talked abt them using fear and that comes with authoritarianism. I strongly believe that if we can topple the extremists in the Republican Party, they may get back their true morals and values. In order to make this happen, many republicans like Kinzinger, Cheney, Murkowski and a few others must change parties for the duration of Biden’s presidency. It will allow more dems to be voted in and hopefully put the normal back into America and run out the ppl like Gaetz, mtg, Cawthorn, boebert, Gosar, Paul Scalise, Cotton…and it would take the power from Manchin and Sinema.
This would definitely be most likely an outcome of a Republican takeover. As a gay man, any rights we now have would be stripped. We would most likely become a pariah of society, outlawed, ostracized, and possibly rounded-up and imprisoned or put to death. No hyperbole. We have seen right-wing evangelical extremists promote and embrace 'Kill The Gays' legislation in Uganda, and embrace Putin and Orban for promoting of 'strict traditional gender roles' eliminating any LGBTQ culture. Personally, I don't trust Americans to stand up en masse to push back against the evil forces facing us and threatening us now. I have lived too long to witness the American tendency for complacency. Sad and frightening times. I never thought I would see anything like this in our country.
