This is a cult that has been slowly being brainwashed and indoctrinated over the last 40 years. It now involves multiple generations of willfully ignorant people. I'll never understand how women voted for him after the Access Hollywood tape came out. I'm also disappointed in the lack of vocal outrage from the Democrats. The daily calls for Al Franken's removal from the Senate was deafening, and hypocritical. Our system is severely broken. The fact that people like Gaetz, Taylor Green, Boebert, Jorden, and a whole lot more, even got elected, is disgraceful. Silence is complicit. Not one word from anyone after Gaetz showed pictures of naked women to his colleagues. Not one word from the media about 45 saying, out loud, this weekend that he did, indeed try to overthrow the government. The big story was that his called McConnell a son of a bitch. I am thrilled that President Biden got elected, but, until everyone who was involved in 1/6 is held responsible, until Gaetz is held responsible, America has nothing to be proud of. We are only as strong as our weakest links, and we have too many of them to hold us together.

My Fox-watching neighbors and a family member parrot what they hear on Fox, but with less confidence than before. I know of some hard core Trump followers in the neighborhood who have their Trump and yellow Gadsen flags flying, but I don’t talk with them; invariably they’re on the spectrum of racism, more openly at least. The ones I speak with have varying degrees of supporting or excusing Trump, but the family member is against Trump since the insurrection. They basically don’t face what is before their eyes, would rather both-sides or express whataboutism, though sometimes acknowledging a little about being mistaken at times, even about Fox. But it doesn’t stick and they are overall staunch Republicans. When I really dig, some form of racism usually emerges. But we keep talking with each other, finding common ground, disagreeing or eliciting change snd empathy, almost always with real respect. Slow going. It’s an elemental process for good change in the people, but it’ll be too late if we find ourselves under Republican control leading to authoritarianism. It could happen faster than imaginable. The Republicans and Fox, etc, need to be called out on their lies more decisively, the both-sides ridiculousness of the MSM needs to stop, corrupt politicians and others who are part of their corruption need to held accountable.
