A good analysis but very depressing. You say the results of the 2022 midterms are not a given; but with all of the states enacting laws to make voting harder, especially for already marginalized people and GOP seeming to stop at nothing re: lies, counting votes so they get the results they want, how much will our 2022 midterm vote even count?

My own predictions with projected consequences:

2022 Mid Terms – The Worst-Case Scenario

• In the run-up to the 2022 elections the DOJ fails to indict Trump or any Jan. 6 conspirators

• The Nov. 2022 Mid-Terms - Republicans win control of both the House and Senate

• Upon their installation in Jan. 2023 Republicans begin to fulfill their pledge to punish those who tried to hold them and Trump accountable for Jan. 6.

Republicans harass, intimidate, and investigate those who were part of the Jan. 6 committee and the managers for both impeachment trials.

• The era of political vengeance begins.

• Republicans move to cement their hold in the Federal and State legislatures with an eye to the 2024 General election. Voter suppression and biased/restrictive election laws are strengthened in red state legislatures.

• Sometime in 2023 & 2024 the DOJ indicts Trump

• Possibility – Trump is tried, found guilty, and sentenced.

• The 2024 General election installs a Republican in the White House. Republicans retain their majorities in the House and Senate

• Trump and his co-conspirators are pardoned.

• The era of autocracy begins.

I will never forget the condescending words of Trump Chief of Staff, Mick Mulvaney, after admitting to Trump's crime of extortion of Zelensky, "GET OVER IT"! This statement so embodies the acceptance by many "Americans" of blatant criminal actions by immoral government officials that the knot in my stomach never went away. We will return to this mass criminal corruption ten-fold if the GOP ever gains significant majorities again. Sadly, and tragically our young grandchildren will never know America as a democracy.

Wonderful compilation of the hardships and absolute insanity facing us if the Republicans gain power in the midterms.

Very depressing. I also see the trappings of a theocracy in many red state areas and its spread to the national level, beginning the end of church/state separation. Already happening in Oklahoma and other res states. Evangelicals are breathless.

When the moon is in the seventh house and Jupiter aligns with Mars, then peace will guide the planets and love will steer the stars. So claims the Age of Aquarius which astrologers say is the zodiac period in which we should now be living. A time of of enlightenment, friendship, human rights, freedom, a time to work together for the benefit of all.

Well, if the Republicans dominate the next two elections, what will happen if we are to learn from the past?Aquarius - I think not. Inflation plus possible 8 increases in the interest rate could very well result in a recession within the next two years.Deutsche Bank (trump's benefactor), Goldman Sachs, major banks and Wall Street warn it is coming. Let's consider what the economy would be like with the likes of trump, McConnell, McCarthy and their minions if they win. Take a look at one of trump's best people and his background for handling the economy which is what concerns Americans the most now. Mnuchin. - worked for Goldman Sachs for 17 years, a bank that has often had its reputation questioned. Then, he was a member of the Sears Holding Co., sued for stripping Sears of billions of dollars as it went into bankruptcy. Mnuchin and partners bought a bank that became OneWest which caused 36,000 foreclosures in California, one a 90 year old woman for a 27 cent error. He was also accused of discriminating against people of color applying for mortgages. As Secty of Treasury appointed by trump, the economic leadership during the covid pandemic was a disaster. International trade policies hurt US industry and alienated allies. The deregulation of energy and financial sectors was the agenda as was reducing corporate tax rates. While the trump tax bill did double the standard deduction, it benefited primarily the top 1 % of income earners, left the middle class wanting, and discriminated against minorities. The forever Republican plan is to end Obamacare, social security and medicare.

Mnuchin had no experience in government, yet, with this background, he was confirmed by the Republican Senate.

Add to this trump's own money failures, bankruptcies, business venture failures, and the need to be rescued by banks and his father, and we have a picture of what will happen to the economy of the United States should Republicans gain control in 2022 - 24.

People must vote Democrat; so they must put themselves out a little, stand in line for an hour, miss dinner, hire a babysitter. Saving our Republic is of the utmost importance.

With Republican wins, we would still be in the Age of Pisces, interested in money, material wealth, followers of leaders who consider themselves first, deserving of power, manipulators of the masses, a wannabe dictator.

As a Virgo, I am considered incompatible with a Pisces. I prefer peace to guide the planet and love to steer the stars.

[ No, I am not an advocate of astrology, but it is interesting how at times, it seems to be relevant.

I unfortunately agree with this analysis. But here is my question: Little is written (or at least I have not found much) about the true motivation of those Republicans who would take us into this darkness. I often wonder what is truly in their souls? Are they really authoritarians? Are they political thugs? Are they corrupted by power and see this path as the only way to win? And is the base they seek to stir up truly representative of our society? What is in their hearts?

Watched the wonderful Leigh McGowan (Politics Girl) last night with appellate lawyer Teri Kanefield for a dose of reality and optimism. Terri offers quite an excellent perspective from inside the legal world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aq909ARpxvs&t=4s

I predict the Clinton House of Cards falls, and takes out much of the DNC apparatus with it. Add the Hunter indictment and the next two or more elections are in serious jeopardy for the current party in power. Enjoy it while it lasts.
